Perhaps You Were Never Meant to Be Fixed

A reflection on becoming, belonging and coming home to who you are
How often do we tell ourselves that we need to be better?
Better at coping.
Better at managing our emotions.
More productive.
More positive.
Healthier.
Calmer.
More confident.
More successful.
There always seems to be something else to work on.
And while growth, learning and change can be beautiful things, I sometimes wonder if we have become so focused on improving ourselves that we have forgotten something incredibly important:
Perhaps we were never broken in the first place.
Maybe you don’t need fixing.
Maybe you need listening to.
Maybe you need rest.
Maybe you need space to feel what you’ve been too busy to feel.
Maybe you need to stop asking yourself, “What’s wrong with me?” and begin asking, “What do I need?”
There is a difference.
We are constantly being told to become more
Life can make it very easy to feel that we are not quite enough.
Not successful enough.
Not fit enough.Not young enough.
Not positive enough.
Not productive enough.
Even wellness can sometimes become another thing we feel we have to be good at.
We can turn mindfulness into another box to tick.
Meditation becomes something we should be doing.
Self-care becomes another item on the to-do list.
And suddenly, the things that were meant to help us slow down become another way of putting pressure on ourselves.
But what if wellness isn’t about becoming a completely different version of you?
What if it is about creating enough space to hear the person who has been there all along?
Your body is speaking
Our bodies are constantly communicating with us.
Sometimes quietly.
Sometimes through tension, tiredness, restlessness, overwhelm or that feeling that something simply isn’t right.
And how often do we respond by pushing harder?
Another coffee.
Another distraction.
Another thing to tick off the list.
I’ll rest when I’ve finished this.
I’ll slow down when things settle.
I’ll look after myself when I have more time.
But there will always be another email.
Another responsibility.
Another busy week.
Another reason to put ourselves last.
Perhaps the pause isn’t something we earn when everything is done.
Perhaps the pause is something we need because life is busy.
Growth doesn’t have to mean becoming someone else
I believe deeply in growth.
I believe we can learn, heal, change and evolve.
But I don’t believe growth means leaving ourselves behind.
Sometimes growth looks like becoming more comfortable with who we already are.
It looks like setting a boundary.
Saying no without feeling guilty.
Allowing yourself to rest.
Letting go of the need to please everyone.
Feeling an emotion without judging yourself for having it.
Taking a breath before reacting.
Choosing peace over proving a point.
Learning that you don’t have to be everyone’s cup of tea.
And understanding that your worth was never dependent on how much you achieved.
Perhaps true growth isn’t always about becoming more.
Sometimes it’s about becoming more you.
You are allowed to have difficult days
There is something wonderfully human about remembering that we don’t have to feel good all of the time.
You can be grateful and still have a hard day.
You can be healing and still feel hurt.
You can be doing the work and still become overwhelmed.
You can meditate, breathe, journal, walk, practise mindfulness — and still have moments when you feel completely fed up.
That doesn’t mean you’ve gone backwards.
It means you’re human.
Healing isn’t a straight line.
Life isn’t a straight line.
And perhaps we could offer ourselves the same compassion on our difficult days that we so naturally offer to the people we love.
So perhaps the question is different
Instead of asking:
“How can I fix myself?”
Maybe we could ask:
“How can I support myself?”
Instead of:
“Why am I like this?”
Try:
“What is this part of me trying to tell me?”
Instead of:
“I should be further along by now.”
Try:
“What do I need in this moment?”
There is softness in those questions.
And sometimes softness is exactly where we need to begin.
Coming home to yourself
For me, wellness has never been about chasing perfection.
It’s about connection.
Connection to your body.
Connection to your breath.
Connection to your emotions.
Connection to the present moment.
And perhaps most importantly, connection to yourself.
Because underneath all the expectations, the roles we play, the things we achieve and the things we think we should be doing, there is still you.
The person who doesn’t need to earn their worth.
The person who is allowed to rest.
The person who is allowed to change their mind.
The person who is allowed to take up space.
The person who is allowed to begin again.
The person who is already enough.
So maybe today, instead of looking for the next thing you need to improve, take a moment to pause.
Put your hand on your heart.
Take a slow breath.
And ask yourself:
What if there is nothing wrong with me?
What if I don’t need to fix myself?
What if I simply need to come home to myself?
Maybe that is where the real journey begins.
Not in becoming someone else.
But in remembering who you are.
At Wellness Ur Way, I believe wellness isn’t a trend or something we need to be perfect at. It’s a way of coming back to ourselves — gently, honestly and one moment at a time.
Through meditation, mindfulness, nervous system regulation, Reiki, EFT, movement and other supportive practices, my intention is to create space for you to pause, reconnect and simply be.
You don’t have to become a different person to be worthy of peace.
You are already worthy of it.
