You Don’t Have to Bloom All Year Round

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about seasons.

Not just the seasons outside our windows, but the seasons we move through in our own lives.

We’re often told that we should always be growing.

Keep going

Keep achieving.

Keep pushing.

Keep becoming.

But the thing I am realising, is that we don't have to bloom all year round.

Nature doesn’t.

There are seasons when everything is alive, colourful and flourishing.

And then there are seasons of change.

Leaves fall.

Things become quieter.

The earth rests.

And underneath the surface, things are still happening.

I think life is much the same.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve had some really beautiful moments with Wellness Ur Way.

I’ve watched something I dreamed about for years grow into something real.

I’ve met some beautiful people.

I’ve taught classes, held space, created courses, workshops and events, and watched people connect with themselves in ways that make my heart so incredibly happy.

But alongside those beautiful moments, there have also been some difficult ones.

There have been moments where I have felt completely in my element.

And moments where I have questioned everything.

Moments where I’ve felt like I was blooming.

And moments where I’ve felt like I’ve barely had the energy to keep my head above the soil.

And I think that’s something I’m finally becoming more comfortable with.

Not every season is going to look the same.

Not every season is going to be productive.

Not every season is going to be exciting.

Not every season is going to make sense.

And that’s okay.

Because sometimes we need the quieter seasons.

The seasons where we stop pushing so hard.

Where we reassess.

Where we let go of what isn’t working.

Where we simply breathe.

I’ve also realised that growth doesn’t always look like doing more.

Sometimes growth looks like saying no, resting, changing direction.

Sometimes it looks like choosing peace over proving a point.

And sometimes, growth is simply getting through a difficult day and being kind to yourself while you do it.

We can be so hard on ourselves when we’re not where we thought we’d be.

We compare our chapter to someone else’s highlight reel.

We look at what other people are achieving and wonder why we’re not doing more.

We convince ourselves we’re behind.

But behind what?

And according to whose timeline?

Nature doesn’t rush.

A tree doesn’t look at another tree and think, I should have more leaves by now.

A flower doesn’t apologise because it isn’t blooming in winter.

And maybe we shouldn’t either.

Maybe you are exactly where you need to be for this season of your life.

Maybe you don’t need to fix everything.

Maybe you don’t need another goal.

Maybe you don’t need to reinvent yourself.

Maybe you just need some space to breathe.

So if you’re in a quieter season right now, I hope you can be gentle with yourself.

If you’re tired, rest.

If you’re changing, allow yourself to change.

If you’re unsure, you don’t need all the answers today.

If you’re letting go, trust that making space doesn’t mean you’ve lost something.

And if you’re blooming right now, enjoy it.

Really enjoy it, without clinging on and hoping it stays that way forever.

Because life moves in seasons.

And so do we.

There will be times when we feel full of energy, ideas and possibility.

There will be times when we feel like everything is falling into place.

And there will be times when we need to retreat a little.

To rest.

To heal.

To simply be.

None of these seasons make us more or less worthy.

Read that line again.. None of the seasons make us more or less worthy!

They are all part of becoming who we are.

And perhaps the biggest lesson these past couple of years have taught me is that I don’t need to have everything figured out to keep moving forward.

I can pause.

I can change my mind.

I can have difficult days.

I can start again.

I can grow slowly.

I can rest.

So as we move into a new season, maybe we can take a little pressure off ourselves.

Maybe September doesn’t have to be about getting back on track.

Maybe it can be about being off track.

Maybe it can simply be about asking:

What season am I in right now?

And instead of fighting it, perhaps we can learn to honour it.

Because you don’t have to bloom all year round.

Sometimes, the most important growth happens quietly.

Beneath the surface.

In the dark.

In the stillness.

And when the time is right…

you’ll bloom again.

Until then, give yourself permission to simply be.

Sending love to you all

Nicola xx
